Shirley Ann Harris Richey, 88, passed from this walk of life into the presence of the Lord on June 27, 2025. She was born in Pine Mills, Texas on October 16, 1936, to John G. Harris and Ella Francis (Fannie) Price Harris, the youngest of eight. She attended school in Quitman and graduated in 1955.
She met and fell in love with Roddy Richey and the following year they were married. They lived in Mesquite for many years before moving to the Cedar Creek Lake area in 1972. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann Taylor and husband, Lynn, of Quitman, and Patricia Fore and husband, Tommy, of Eustace; her five grandchildren, Amy Prather and husband, Matthew, Hank Taylor, and Heather Moore, all of Quitman, and Wayne Fore and wife, Denise, and Tonya Bargerhuff and husband, Jason, of Eustace; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Shirley was a bookkeeper by profession, working for Ryder Truck Rental in Dallas for many years and most recently for Payne Springs Water before finally retiring at age 76. She was a 30-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Johnny Harris, Kenneth Harris, Jewel Harris, and William Henry (Pete) Harris; and her sisters, Lula Mae Skiles, Oleta Nolan, and Nadine LaRue.
Our mother taught us many things in life but especially three that stand out are “always tell the truth”; “never, ever make fun of anyone”; and “whatever job you do, do it right the first time.” Mama was full of wisdom, and we thank God for her living example. We know we shall see her again in heaven.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Mineola, Texas.
