She was born on June 2, 1957, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Son Powell and the late Evelyn Mae Badgett Powell.
Theresa graduated in 1975 from Kemp High School. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Capp City. In 1982, Theresa accepted a job with the DOD in data processing for the FBI. She knew she needed to succeed and always was determined to be the best. With unwavering determination and a strong work ethic, she advanced through numerous positions before transferring to the procurement department at Quantico. What was not intended as a promotion quickly became her legacy as she successfully managed the world of “spending money” for HRT and training development at several sites through the US. She managed many multi-million-dollar contracts over her years and only lost 2 cents. She is teased by many as probably memorizing the FARR as she would easily quote the regulation allowing procurement. After retiring, Theresa returned “down home” to build her dreams and settle back into her beloved family community of Flagg Lake. Although she never had children of her own, she cherished her role as the devoted and spoiling Aunt to her niece, Serena. She also adopted many friends’ children and cousins and was lovingly known as “Aunt Theresa”. She was loved by many and will be missed. She was definitely one of a kind. Her most recent joy came from working as a bookkeeper at Learning Express for her cousin, where she delighted in watching young children grow with love.
Theresa is survived by her sister Diana Powell Lewis and her husband, Jeffrey, of North Richland Hills, Texas; and her niece Serena Wilson and her husband, Alphonse IV.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank, Texas. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Baker Cemetery in Kemp, Texas.
Pallbearers include Charles Powell, Michael Rowland, Ervin Bynum, Jeremy Cheek, Dicky Reed, and Terry Reed.
