Son of Barbara L Witcher and Robert Thomas Patrick (Kelly) O’Brien, he was born December 3, 1957 in Shreveport, LA.
Tommy’s love for racing started at a young age when he joined his father at the track. They built an undeniable bond and from there, Tommy was hooked. He dipped his toe in all aspects of racing but jet cars is where he found himself the happiest. He could build a car like no one else in the industry; his vision was unmatched. He always had that welding smell on him and it is now one I miss desperately. Racing was his dream and he did everything he had to, to continue that dream up until the day he passed.
He was preceded to heaven by his mother, father, step-mother, grandparents, uncles, cousins and friends. He is survived by his Ex-wife and mother of his children, Lillie O’Brien; their children: Theresa Ladner and husband John Ladner, Amanda Rhue; Three grandsons: Brady Ladner, Thomas Rhue and Isaiah Rhue; sister Kathleen Davies.
Tommy was a deeply beloved father, brother and friend. His passing was sudden and unexpected but quick, just like he always hoped it would be.
While we lost our father, many lost a friend and a loved one in him. He has been a rock to many, a master at sarcastic humor and witty timing to others, and even a pain in the neck, to what I’m sure is a small select few (because no matter what happened between you in your lives, once you were marked as important to him, he’d be by your side no matter what). There was so much more to him than just dad – he was a great friend, mentor, brother, stand-in paternal figure to the fatherless, talented fabricator, the list goes on and on.
A celebration of Tommy's life will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Derby restaurant Dallas, 9100 John W. Carpenter Fwy, Dallas, TX 75247.
We invite you to share pictures and memories. It was his wish that we laugh and reminisce and smile together during this time.
