Elick worked at various jobs during his life, including years in the oil drilling fields of the Rocky Mountain States. He worked as a custom home builder in the Dallas – Fort Worth area before moving to the Cedar Creek Lake area, where he has been for over fifty years. Before long, he began his own business as a concrete construction contractor until retiring in 2010.
Elick was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Don Baxter. He is survived by his wife of over thirty years, Shirley McDaniel Baxter; three sons and one daughter in whom he delighted – Joe Baxter and wife Charlotte, Tim Baxter and wife Barbie, Thomas McDaniel and wife Misty, and daughter, Robbi Tupper. He also leaves behind two brothers and one sister – James Baxter of Virginia, Ray Baxter of Florida, and Pam Bowen of Gun Barrel City. Elick has four grandchildren and one great granddaughter – Jason Baxter, Laci Baxter, Nathan Baxter, and Ashley Tupper, and great granddaughter, Brylee Baxter.
Through the many years living in this area, Elick has made and maintained many business and personal friends.
