

Archie T. “BROTHER” Hawks, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011 in Swedish American Hospital. He was born July 28, 1924 in Elkhart, IN to Archie L. and Mary Lucille Hawks. Archie met and married the “love of his life” Pearl Thompson, March 26, 1966 in Rockford, IL. They have one daughter, Shala Thompson, one son, Sean (Susan) Harris, five grandchildren, Ashley, Deshawn, Ashalya, Christopher and Joshua, two godson’s, Eddie Straight and Richard Newborn, and one Goddaughter, Kayla Dean. He had two surviving siblings, Lloyd Hawks and Mary Hawks Mure, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers, Charles, Phillip and Everett and sister, Fannie. He served in the US Army during World War II. Was self employed at Hawks Cleaners, Club Eldorado, Marathon Service Station and Shala’s Restaurant. Also worked as a Liaison at Wilson Junior High School, IL Highway Department, IL Secretary of State, Shepherd of the Street (S.O.S.) for the Methodist Church, and Chicago Metropolitan Insurance. He served on the Winnebago County Housing Board, was a member of Miles Memorial CME Church and Jefferson Horton American Legion Post 340. He loved his family and touched numerous lives. The family would like to give thanks to the Dr.’s, Nurses and Caregivers at Swedish American Hospital. Special thanks to the home care taker Miranda Davidson. Services will be 12:00 pm Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 2209 Clifton Avenue, Rockford, IL. Visitation will be at 10:00 am until time of service. Arrangements entrusted by Sunset Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at a later date in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
