Cheryl J. Johnson

Cheryl J. Johnson, 75, of Loves Park, IL passed away on December 25, 2022. She was born in Dixon, IL on January 17, 1947 to William R. and Edythe (Webster) Frye. Cheryl graduated from Freeport High School in 1965. She worked for 13 years at Newell and 23 years at Ingersoll before retiring. Cheryl married the love of her life, Gary Johnson, on April 27, 1985. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, baking, and working in her yard. Cheryl was known for her sharp memory, honesty, how she loved so deeply, and was constantly amused by Gary’s antics. Cheryl will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Cheryl is survived by her husband of 37 years, Gary; her step-son, Scott (Nikki) Johnson; her grandkids, Cassie (Bo), Kylie, and Mason; her 2 great-grandkids; her siblings, Judy (Neal Hanson) Jenner and William “Bill” A. (Jeannine) Frye; her nieces and nephews, Kristin (Matt) Hollinger, Jeff (Jamie Johnston) Frye, Barbra (Don) Harradine, Thomas (Deb) Jenner, and Michelle (Rusty) Anderson; her special great-nephew and niece, Nathan and Megan Hollinger; and many other great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edythe and her niece, Debra Tryggestad.

Funeral for Cheryl will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd., Machesney Park, IL 61115. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the start of services. Burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Cheryl’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
