Doris H. Vaccaro, 87, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025. She was born on January 22, 1938 in Henderson, Texas, the daughter of Eulys and Keble (Joyner) Gambill. Doris graduated from Corning High School in 1955. After graduation, she moved from Corning to Rockford, IL, to pursue the opportunities of the great northern migration. Doris met the love of her life, Samuel Vaccaro, through letters written to him while he was in the Navy. Doris and Sam were married on February 19, 1956. She loved sewing, quilting and crocheting. Doris was a loving grandmother, who often cared for her many grandchildren while they were growing up. Doris was a faithful servant of Jesus for her entire life.
Doris leaves behind her daughters, Cyndi (Larry) Shields, Lori Vaccaro, and Julie Vaccaro (Bill Pasque); grandchildren, Matthew Shields, Andrew (Roxanne) Shields, Kaitlyn (Matthew) Jones, Chelsea Beran (Nathan Forgille), Lexi Whaley (Jeremy Rose) and Hayley (Mark) Frakes; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Mac Gambill; sister, Brenda Whitmire; as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Sam, brother Jerry Gambill, sister-in-law, Barb Gambill and brother-in-law, Noel Whitmire.
A private family service will take place at Sunset Funeral Home on December 3, 2025.
