Douglas D. Gibson, 87, of Rockford, IL, passed away Saturday morning, July 17, 2021. He was born August 24, 1933 in Rockford, IL, the son of Asa Gibson and Helen Abbott. Douglas served in the United States Navy as part of the Sea Bees for 4 years. He married his sweetheart, Mary V. Fradette, on June 25, 1955 in Rockford. Doug was a faithful member of Broadway Covenant Church for almost 60 years. He was volunteer firefighter for the Cherry Valley Fire District at Log Cabin Arbor for over 20 years. Doug was employed at Wayne’s 5 Pt Texaco, Rockford Machine Tool, HMC Products throughout his career. He enjoyed model trains, especially N-gauge trains. Doug was an avid supporter of the Phantom Regiment. He was a favorite regular at Johnny Pamcakes for 15 years. Most of all, Doug loved his family and was a very doting husband for 66 years.
Douglas is loved and missed by his wife, Mary; daughter, Jill (Jim) Page; grandson, Christopher (Amber) Piasecki; great-grandson, Alexander; furry grandchild, Maddie; and sister, Delores Faulkner. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jay Gibson and brother Ray Hallquist.
A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m., Friday, July 23, 2021 at Broadway Covenant Church, 3525 Broadway, Rockford, IL 61108 with a memorial service to begin at 2:00 p.m. Private burial will take place.
