George H. Cook, 78, of Machesney Park, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 15, 2025. George was born to George and Joyce Cook on July 28, 1947, in Rockford. George married the love of his life Sharon, and they spent 55 wonderful years together. George was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Machesney Park and served as their treasurer. It was important to George that his friends and family knew the Lord. George loved fishing as often as he could with his family or friends, as well as camping. He also liked to go bowling, and had a great love for the game of baseball. He and his sons played on the church league team and created memories that would last a lifetime. George and his sons also shared the hobby of building – whether it be a new porch, or a garage. He also had a special place in his heart for Hawaii. George and Sharon went several times through the years and treasured that time. Above all else, George was always in the mood for a good game of cards or a board game with his family.
George is survived by his wife, Sharon Cook; children, Paul (Pam) Cook, Glen (Renee) Cook, Rachel (Devin) Bloomingdale, and Sarah (Jon) Carr; grandchildren, Stefan Cook, Kiersten Bloomingdale, Makayla Bloomingdale, and Nathan Carr; siblings, Donna Cook and Joe Cook; many other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by parents, George Cook and Joyce (Cook) Londrie; siblings, Clancy Cook and Virginia Tallackson.
A visitation for George will take place Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home, beginning at 12:00 PM, until the time of service at 1:00 PM. George's burial will take place privately.
