Harry Michael “Mike” Love, 81, of Machesney Park, IL, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his children April 30, 2025 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mike was born October 13, 1943 in Point Pleasant, West Virginia to Howard Edgar Love and Florence Evelyn Machir Love. Married Emily Good in 1965 in Middlesborough, Kentucky. Proud father of Gary (Kristen), Barry Love, and Sarah (Jeff) Sherman. Grandfather of Julie, Taylor, Isaac, Ian, and Ellen Love and Emily, Leah, and Graham Sherman. (Special love, Loral Keenan.) Predeceased by his wife, parents, brother Dan, and sister Debbie.
Graduate of Point Pleasant High School and West Virginia University, Mike served as Captain in the US Army, with two tours of duty in Viet Nam. Mike was employed by Bristol Meyers Co before becoming a Registered Investment Advisor and bookkeeper. For many years, Mike ran his own tax preparation business as an Enrolled Agent of the IRS. An avid hunter, shooter, and hiker, he completed over 1,500 miles of the Appalachian Trail. His avocation of soccer refereeing was his great joy. He was an AYSO Referee Instructor for 34 years and refereed AYSO, high school, and college levels, remaining active into his 80s.
