James “Jim” T. Kelsey, 82, of Rockford, rode the sunbeam from the comfort of his home surrounded by his family and loved ones on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Jim was born April 17, 1942, in Rockford to William and Florence Kelsey. He graduated from St. Thomas Catholic High School before attending Rock Valley College, graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors. On October 19, 1963, Jim married the love of his life, Donna. He was employed with Eclipse, formerly Sall, as a machinist, working his way up to plant supervisor. During this time, he was drafted into the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany, where he received a letter from Colonel William L. Knapp recognizing Jim’s service. Upon his return to the states, he went back to work, and retired in 1997.
Jim had many interests including cars, guns, waterskiing, and Wheel of Fortune. He was a part of the Kingsman Car Club in the late 1950’s. He was also a part of the Pine Tree Pistol Club, where he loved target shooting and reloading ammunition. He has been a member of Cathedral of Saint Peter Church for 60 years.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Kelsey; children, Michael (Lori Schlais) Kelsey, Deborah Kelsey, and Kathleen (Gabriel Ramos) Kelsey; bonus daughter, Margaret Howarth; grandchildren, Alexander, Christopher, and Sophia; brothers, John Kelsey and Bernard “Bernie” Kelsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Florence, and brother, Pat Kelsey.
