

James Joseph Sanders, 38, of Roscoe, Illinois, passed away on January 9, 2026. James was born to Debra (Schaefer) and Jim Sanders on March 6, 1987. He graduated from South Beloit High School and made it a point to stay connected with his friends throughout the years. He had the pleasure and honor of serving his community as a Sergeant for South Beloit Police Department for 16 years. More recently, he worked as a police officer with the BMO Center in downtown Rockford.
James’ had a special loyalty to his brothers in law enforcement and the sense of community it gave him. Although James’ passion was his career, he made sure to stay busy with several hobbies over the years. He and his son JT loved to go golfing, especially at CeCelia’s course in Janesville, as well as bowling. Being outdoors was James’ happy place, especially if it included deer hunting and fishing, with the occasional trip up north to Minocqua, Wisconsin. Growing up on the border gave him a unique identity in sports being a Green Bay Packer fan, as well as a Chicago Cub and Blackhawk fan. He thoroughly loved sports and could tell you just about any statistic on any athlete. Above all else, James’ top priority was being a father.
He is survived by his son, JT; parents, Debbie and Russ Schaefer; brother, Kyle (Chelsie) Schaefer; nephew, Kolton Schaefer; stepmother, Peggy Sanders; several stepsiblings; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Sanders; grandparents, Russ and Dee Schaefer, Don and Marie Hood, and Jim and Mary Sanders.
The family of James invites you to celebrate his life on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Vikings Lanes, 210 Oak Grove Ave #1937, South Beloit, IL 61080, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
