Joan M. Laughran

Joan M. Laughran passed away November 27, 2010 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born November 18, 1932 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI; the daughter of Dr. Francis and Gladys (Hansen) Pomianville. Joan enjoyed traveling, painting, and cooking. She attended Lawrence University in Appleton, WI from 1953-1955. She received her Bachelor’s Degree and graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1958, with a major in Art Education. Joan continued her education at Rockford College in Rockford, IL in 1967 and Beloit College in Beloit, WI in 1966. Joan taught Art Education at the Rockton School District 13, in Rockton, IL from 1968-1973, then taught 2nd grade at Rockton School District 140 from 1985-1986. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Joan married Ken Laughran in Loves Park, IL on August 19, 1972. Survivors include her husband Ken of Rockford, IL, son, John (Paula) Boyce of Machesney Park, IL, grandchildren, Benjamin and Megan Boyce of Beloit, WI, great-grandchildren Clayton, Eian, Mason Rowan Boyce all of Beloit, WI, sister, Frances (John) Roper of WA, and cousins, Paula Pomianville of Boulder Junction, WI and Mary (Sidney) Franklin of GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sons, Peter Boyce and Michael Laughran. Memorial Services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N.
