

Kathleen “Kathy” LaPier, beloved mom, grandma and G.G. (great grandma) was called home after a sudden illness to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. Born on March 26, 1933, Kathleen Ruby Dunaway, graduated from Rockford East High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart Donald LaPier. She lived most of her life in Rockford, IL. Moving to Wildwood, FL. in 2000. She was a charter member of South Park Covenant Church, previous member of Morningside Covenant Church and current member of First Baptist of Wildwood. Besides her love of reading, listening to music, and traveling to many places that she never dreamed of seeing, she sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school, enjoyed volunteering in a reading program at the local elementary school, volunteering with Caring Hands and working in the prayer room at her local church. She is predeceased by her life partner and husband Don, granddaughter Jennifer Sheldon, her parents Roy and Helen Dunaway, brothers, Emerson and Bruce and Sister Rosalie. Her legacy lives on by those who will miss her smile, hugs, and sense of humor her daughters Vicky (Marlowe) Sheldon and Karynn Helm. Many loving memories and special moments were gifts of love to her surviving grandchildren, Jim (Dynell) Sheldon, Stacey Sheldon, Amber Helm, Halee Helm and Jordan Helm. G.G. will be missed for her tickling matches and many songs about Jesus by her great grandchildren, Keegan, Thatcher, Damien, Gianni and Kai. She had numerous nieces, nephews and special friends that held a very special place in her heart. A very special and love filled thank you to the staff of Promise Hospital, The Club Rehab and Cornerstone Hospice for the love and care given to Kathy. Memorial services will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev David Anderson presiding. Visitation at 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in her name at Mission Church of Ventura, California.
