Leroy Allen Murphy, age 76, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. He was born on October 23, 1947 to Vera (O’Dell) and Clifford Murphy in Necedah, Wisconsin. He married the love of his life, Vicki Murphy, on August 15, 1970, together they shared 2 children and 51 years in marriage. After serving his country in Vietnam Leroy came back to Rockford and worked at Chrysler Processing Plant for over 30 years. Leroy was an active member of First Baptist Church in Rockford, volunteering in the sound system booth, as an alternate usher, and in the nursery.
Leroy was an outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and birdwatching with his wife Vicki. When he was young he learned to live off the land with his family in Wisconsin. He liked cars, observing all the details, from the wheels to the taillights. Leroy liked to keep a nice yard, he took pride in keeping his bushes trimmed and could often be found outside with his lawnmower. Leroy loved to travel, he and Vicki were always on an adventure somewhere new, be that taking their daughters to Disney World, visiting Yellowstone, going white water rafting, or their 25 year Anniversary Caribbean cruise. He listened to all genres of music. Leroy was known for being a great helper, he would mow his mother-in-laws lawn when she was unable to, was known to drive her to any doctor’s appointments, and loved helping out in any way, from prepping vegetables for dinner to watching his younger grandchildren while Vicki baked with the older ones. Leroy was a quiet, humble man who will be better remembered for his actions than his words.
He is survived by his children, Tiffany (Matthew) Crull and Renae (Shane) VanSickle; and grandchildren, Addisen Crull, Talan Crull, Brynn VanSickle, and Libby VanSickle.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Vera Murphy; wife, Vicki Murphy; and brother, Larry Murphy.
