

Mrs. Lottie Wylodean (Crittendon) Campbell was born May 30, 1920, in Decatur, IL and passed away on March 10, 2015, in Pine Bluff, AR. She resided in Pine Bluff with son Dr. Michael Bates since 2003. During the last phase of her life she was lovingly taken care of by daughter, Elizabeth Moore and granddaughter Marci Pope.
She is preceded in death by: husband, Taft Campbell, Sr.; parents, Joshua and Ellen [Ware] Crittendon; brothers, Willard David Crittendon, Sr., and Laurence Crittendon; son, Charles Theodore Bates, II; and stepson, John Lee Campbell, Esq.
She leaves to mourn her loss: sons, Dr. Michael J. Bates of Pine Bluff, AR and Larry (Martha) Bates of Rockford, IL; daughter, Elizabeth Moore of Minneapolis, MN; nephew, Willard David Crittendon, Jr., of Los Angeles, CA; stepdaughters, Shirley Harris of Camden, AR and Ora Dell Rowland, of Los Angeles, CA; stepson, Taft (Joyce) Campbell, Jr., of Milwaukee, WI; daughter-in-law Vonda Vaden Bates of Minneapolis, MN; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and special friends.
She graduated from Decatur High School, Madame C.J. Walker College of Beauty Culture and Rockford School of Practical Nursing. She served in the music ministries of Bethel B. C., Providence B.C., New Zion B.C. and in the 1940s at Pilgrim B.C. Perhaps her most favorite church music position was as Director and Pianist for the Bethel Baptist Male Chorus. She began studying music at an early age and in Rockford she studied piano as an adult with Miss Bernita Foote at Rockford’s Mendelssohn Club. She was a beautician for more than 30 years; worked as an LPN at St. Anthony’s Hospital, and she retired as a teacher from the Barbara Olsen School of Hope. She traveled abroad to England, France and Israel and to many vacation destinations in the U.S.
Funeral services 10a.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Providence Baptist Church, 2209 Clifton Avenue, Rev. DeCarto Draper, Pastor. The Eulogist will be Rev. Ronald Alexander.
