

Luther “Lute” Jerome Wyttenbach, age 90, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025. He was born February 17, 1935 in Blanchardville, Wisconsin to Alfred and Inez (Moen) Wyttenbach. He was united in marriage to Beulah “Millie” Argue on October 5, 1957 in Madison, Wisconsin. Lute worked for Ingersoll Milling Machine Company for 44 years, many as a Programming Department Manager.
Lute was a man of many talents and a heart full of generosity. Always ready to lend a hand, whether it was fixing a car, repairing a home, or tackling any project that came his way, Lute’s vehicle was always stocked with tools, ready for any situation. His passion for helping and fixing things extended to his volunteer work, which included bird banding, fixing machinery, and preserving prairie lands.
He was an active member of the Nygren Wetland Preserve (NLI), Ingersoll Retirees Organization, Toy Makers of Wesley Willows, Bird Banders of Sand Bluff Observatory, and Boy Scouts. Lute also loved camping, fishing, playing Euchre and Cribbage with his friends and family.
Lute’s adventurous spirit took him on a solo trip to Alaska, which he cherished. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Lute is survived by his children, Ken (Linda) Wyttenbach, Bonnie (Jim) Summers, Gary (Julie) Wyttenbach, and Cheryl (Chuck) McCumber; grandchildren, Jessica (Dave) Raddatz, Jackie (Aaron) Ritchay, Carly (James) Sinkel, Kaitlyn Summers, Caleb Summers, Madeline Summers, Kyle (Kendall) Wyttenbach, Brandon Wyttenbach, Hannah McCumber, Alex McCumber, Ryan McCumber; great-grandchildren, Ali Raddatz, Charlie Raddatz, Max Ritchay, Ava Ritchay, Addison Wyttenbach, and Mabel Sinkel; siblings, Jerry (Sharon) Wyttenbach, Jo Ann (Art) Gilbertson, and Judy (Randy) Paulson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Beulah “Millie” (Argue) Wyttenbach; parents, Alfred and Inez Wyttenbach; siblings, Virgil Wyttenbach, Frank Wyttenbach, Donald Wyttenbach, and Richard Wyttenbach; and daughter-in-law, Patti Wyttenbach.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wesley Willow’s Good Samaritan Fund and the NLI Nygren Wetland Preserve.
A visitation for Lute will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, Il 61115 with a memorial service at 10:30 am. Interment and luncheon to follow.
