Lyle “Sonny” Johnson, 87, of Rockford, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born September 7, 1929 in Rockford, IL. Son of Jesse and Hanna (Hall) Johnson. Married Onetta Barton on June 3, 1967 in Missouri. Worked for 43 years for Nelson & Storm Tool Supply Company retiring in 1995. When he wasn’t working he found enjoyment in tinkering with his motorized toys and old cars. Together with family he enjoyed the Lake House in Wisconsin. Together with Onetta they played cards every Friday with the neighbors.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 50 years, Onetta; children, Pam (Jim) Wayman, Jeff (Cathy) Johnson, Mike (Jennifer) Johnson; grandchildren, Jordan Wayman, Brianna (Kyle) Anderson, Alisha (Dan) Spencer, Aaron Lindstead, Raina Johnson, Jesse Johnson; great-grandchild, Parker Anderson. Predeceased by his parents; son, Todd Johnson; brothers, Oral, Herb, Bud, Jerry; sisters, Hazel Michelson, Beverly Cummings.
