

He was born July 10, 1921 in Rochelle, IL the son of John and Magda (Larson) Furland. He married his wife of many years Marion on April 4, 1942. Melburn served his country in the United States Navy as an Aviation Ordnanceman during WWII. He worked for Elco Tool for 47 years prior to his retirement in 1986. Melburn enjoyed collecting die cast metal cars, carving and painting wooden ducks which he would give to friends and family and playing the harmonica. He was known as the “harmonica man” to all those he entertained.
Melburn is survived by one daughter; Marcia (Chuck ) Anderson of Roscoe, IL, two granddaughters; Britt (George) Melnik of Avon, CT and Erica (Tyler) Pace of Mt. Prospect, IL, two great granddaughters; Katrina and Natalie Melnik , one brother; Donald (Linda) Furland , nephews; Bob Bjorneby, John, Jim and Jerry Furland and his special friend Doris Nordlof.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marion and his sister Thordis Skar.
Visitation will be from 9:30a.m. until time of service at 10:30a.m. on Thursday October 18, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Machesney Park, IL the Rev. Jane McChesney will officiate.
