Michael was born in Janesville, Wisconsin, to Edward and Doris Jean (Masterson) Purcell. He attended West High School in Rockford, Illinois, where he played on the tennis team. This began the chapters of his life that would be defined by hard work and dedication.
He spent most of his adult life in Michigan, later returning to Rockford, Illinois, where he lived for the past five years. Michael worked as a master machinist and industrial maintenance mechanic at JL Clark where he truly enjoyed his work. He took pride in his skills, in working with his hands, and in doing a job well.
Outside of work, Michael found happiness in the things he loved most. He enjoyed NASCAR races, fishing, hunting, and watching westerns. He also had a special fondness for music and enjoyed attending concerts.
Michael is survived by his mother, Doris Jean Purcell; his siblings, Linda Minnihan, Susan Purcell, Stephen (Chris) Purcell, nephew, Shaun (Chelsey Martin) Minnihan; his niece, Brianne Minnihan; and his great-niece and great-nephew, Bailey and Niall.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Cyril Purcell.
He will be remembered for his independence, loyalty and deep appreciation for those he cherished in his life. Michael will be missed.
