

Nancy C. Flatebo, age 89, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025. She was born September 8, 1935 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of James E. and Bertha M. (Imes) Ferguson. Nancy graduated from Rockford East High School, class of 1953. She married Herbert H. Dhuse on June 7, 1953 and from this union, three children were born. Nancy went on to marry Robert D. Flatebo on July 6, 1968, and from this union, one son was born and she gained 2 bonus children. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Machesney Park, where she sang in the church choir and a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rockford. Nancy was a skilled seamstress making custom draperies. She was also employed at Woodward Governor, Atwood and at a local chiropractor office. Nancy was an adoring mother who was a Cub Scout Den Mother and supporting her children's extra curricular activities. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, square dancing, Chicago sports and entertaining friends and family. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, whether it was camping or going on car rides to look at the scenery, where she especially enjoyed vintage barns. Nancy was small but mighty and her legacy will live through those who loved her.
Nancy is survived by her children, Kevin (Karen) Dhuse, Kimberly (James) Ryder, Kerry Dhuse and Keith (Jody) Flatebo; bonus children, Tonya (Steven) Stromquist and James (Bernice) Flatebo; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, grandchildren Shaun and Laura Kraman, brother James and sister Norma.
A private graveside service will be held. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to Northern Illinois Hospice or Rockford Habitat for Humanity.
