

Paula L. Cates, 63, of Rockford, IL. died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. In a life well celebrated, she married Randy Cates and shared 29 years together while raising their family in a home filled with love. Their life together was a beautiful love story inspiring to their children. In the words of her family, “She was beautiful without having to try.” A perfect day would be a cup of coffee on the deck, drinking in all the beauty of nature and her beautiful flowers, kindle in hand always reading or playing casino poker on her phone. Paula was very creative, she would showcase her skills by crafting something extraordinary out of minimal supplies. She enjoyed baking for the family, especially her signature cupcakes. Paula worked for Sundstrands for over 30 years. She was a big cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys. Her life was complete when surrounded by her family. Paula was born July 9, 1954 in Loves Park, IL. to Richard and Mary (Rayls) Neujahr. She lived, She loved, She laughed. Paula's words of council: "Life is Good".
Survivors: husband, Randy; children, Jessica (Charles) Smith, Michael Eviston, Zachary (Maegan) Cates; grandchildren, Charles Smith, Natalie Smith, Seraphina Cates; siblings, John (Bobbi) Neujahr, Margaret (Charles) Martoglio, George (Judy) Neujahr. Predeceased by parents; sister, Joan Monighan.
