

Phyllis G. Oakley, 96 of Rockford passed away on July 12 while residing at River Bluff Nursing Home. Born on February 4, 1917 in South Wayne, WI, she was the daughter of Charles E. and Mabel (Hartsough) Collins. On January 13, 1941, she married Claude “Verne” Oakley in Nashua, IA at The Little Brown Church.
A 1933 graduate of South Wayne High, she attended Cosmetology school and opened her own salon in Genoa. After getting married she became a home maker and was bookkeeper for the family business, C. L. Oakley Construction, which built numerous homes in the Belvidere and Lake Summerset areas.
Phyllis was a member of New Life Bible Church, Leona Neighbors, and Inter Se Durand.
She loved sewing, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren. She won first place at the Winnebago County Fair for her quilting.
Her survivors include her son, Myron (Rebecca) Oakley; son in law, Jerry Snively; grandchildren, Adam S. and Mariah Oakley, Julie (John) Little and Stephen Snively; and four great grandchildren.
Predeceased by her parents, sister, daughter, Melba Snively, and husband.
