Richard Duane Rivera, 64, Rockford, passed away on March 11, 2013. He was born on March 4, 1949 in Rockford to Joseph and Virginia (Jackson) Rivera. He graduated from West High School and was employed with Laborers Local 32 from 1971 to 2005.
He married JoAnn Vowell on October 25, 1985. Richard loved riding his Harley, doing yardwork and gardening but mostly loved his family and grand kids.
He is survived by his wife JoAnn; his daughter, April (Jonathan) Bradley and step-daughter, Kesley (Patrick) Seidel; his brothers Terry and Joseph Rivera; his sisters Judy Pollock and Gina Rivera; and his grandchildren, Caleb Seidel, Gabriel Seidel, Lily Seidel and Jacob Bradley.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held at 10am on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N. Church St. Rockford, Father Carl Beekman will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm, Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd., Machesney Park. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
