Robert C. Welke, 81, of Machesney Park passed away on Tuesday August 3, 2021 at Swedish American Hospital with family at his side. Robert was born on April 26, 1940 in Ainsworth, NE the son of Carl and Jane (Morehouse-Strong) Welke. Robert married Donna Larsen on March 9, 1963. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and was a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was affiliated with Riverside Community Church. Robert liked to go fishing; travel to Florida in the winter with Donna, where he could play cards with his friends four nights a week. He loved attending to his summer garden of tomatoes and cucumbers.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Donna; daughter Paula Welke-Sies (Jimmy Bunnell); Aunt Sylvia Strong; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert was preceded in death by his father: Carl Welke; mother Jane Strong; step-father Virgil Strong and brother Richard Welke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Association.
Visitation for Robert will be Monday August 9, 2021 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park; service to celebrate Robert’s life will be 10:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Bobby Sheets officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
