

Roger E. Larson, 89, of Rockford passed away Sunday January 8, 2017 at River Bluff Nursing Home. Roger was born on March 4, 1927 to Peter and Agnes (Sundberg) Larson in Douglas County, MN. He graduated from Alexandria High School MN in 1944. Roger served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines at the end of WWII. He married Betty Ann Vogt on March 28, 1948 and moved to Rockford that year. Roger worked for National Lock as a machinist retiring after 331/2 years of service. A few years later he worked part-time at Specialty Screw for 6 years. He loved to fish, travel and shoot billiards. Roger was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign War.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, his brothers Daryl and Gerald and sisters Doris and Shirley.
Roger is survived by his sister Janice (Leon) Kaltved; daughter Teresa Eggers; son Brad (Mary) Larson; five granddaughters: Christine (Micah) White, Jennifer (CJ) Eggers, Alexandra (Ben) Branca, Brooke (Joel) Moore and Kathryn (William) Haun; three great-granddaughters: Ava and Londyn Moore and Anastasia Haun; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Helen Larson and Gayle Larson; special friends Bob and Ivy Christensen, Roxanne Larson and Steve Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warriors Project or Northern Illinois Hospice.
A service to celebrate Roger’s life will be 2:00 pm Saturday January 14, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
