Russell L. “Puffer” Fewkes, 78, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, June 24, 2018 after a short illness. He was born January 21, 1940 in Rockford, IL, the son of Clyde and Helen (McCoy) Fewkes. Puffer was proud to serve in the United States Navy, and was stationed overseas on 3 different air craft carriers. He was the owner and operator along with Charles Clingon of Chaz Trucking and Russell also owned Indotech, Inc. Puffer loved photography, especially taking photos of flowers and landscapes. He enjoyed baking and cooking all sorts of different foods. Russell had a love for country music. He was known for helping people and doing it under the radar so that no one knew that he did it.
Russell is loved and missed by his daughter, Tracie (Patrick) Gaddy; sister, Beverly (Roger) Peters; special friends, Gwen (Ron) McKinney, Billy Flynn, and Charlie Clingon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Charlotte Williams and Betty Fewkes.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115. A visitation will be held from 12:30p.m., until the time of service. Entombment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the family.
