Stephen Whitford

Stephen “Steve” H. Whitford, 67, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Steve was born to Edward and Shirley (Farmer) Whitford in Limestone, Maine, on January 12, 1956. With Steve’s father being in the military, he moved to six different states, landing in the Rockford area. He graduated from Winnebago High School in 1974, before attending Bible College out east. He began his journey as a pastor in Pennsylvania before moving back. He was a pastor in the area at several churches throughout the years. On September 13, 2004, he married Christine “Chris” Krugjohann.

Steve was a man of many traits, most recognized as kind, sweet, caring and loving to those around him. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and working on his Jeep. He also volunteered at Midway Village for many years, which brought him great joy.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Chris; father, Edward; children, Cynthia Olson, Mark (Jesica) Whitford, and Matthew Whitford; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; siblings, Terri (Mark), Tom (Linda), Pamela, Timothy (Cathy), and Rachel (Darrell); several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley; Sister, Cheryl; one grandchild.

A visitation will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m., Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a time of sharing to begin at 3:30 p.m.
