Steven G. Michaelis

Steven Grant Michaelis, 66, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Steven was born to Grant and Betty (Ginstrom) Michaelis on July 12, 1957, at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. As a child, Steven was involved in the Boy Scouts. He attended Rockford Public Schools before attending Illinois School for the Visually Impaired in Jacksonville, IL, where he graduated. He overcame many life challenges being visually impaired.

Steven loved listening to music, especially Rock N’ Roll. He was an avid fan of Johnny Winter. Throughout his life he collected Matchbox Cars and Hot Wheels, even dating back to the 1960’s.

He is survived by his brothers, Kenny (Lorie) Michaelis, Douglas (Nan) Michaelis, and David Michaelis. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steven’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and friends he made with Lifescape’s adult day program; OSF Saint Anthony’s Emergency Department and third floor staff; Aide, Shaniece who helped Steven at home; Doctor Trent Barnhart and his staff, as well as Doctor Syed Zaidi and his staff; the residents and friends of Summit Green Apartments.

Per Steven’s wishes, services will be conducted privately. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Gardens next to his mother, Betty. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lifescape, https://lifescapeservices.org/donate/
