Sue spent her life in Rockford, IL, where she touched the lives of many. Married to Gary Acaley in November 1979, Sue was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She cherished spending time with her loved ones, especially her grandchildren, cheering them on at their various sporting events. Alongside her husband, Gary, Sue found joy in traveling the world. They had the opportunity to see many places together. Sue worked as a secretary and in retail, where she dedicated herself to her job and colleagues. However, her true passion lay in quilting, a hobby she excelled at. Sue's quilts, crafted with love and care, will serve as a lasting legacy to her creativity and skill. On top of quilting, Sue was an amazing cook and made sure everything was made from scratch. Some of her recipes will be living on forever in the family.
Sue was predeceased by her parents, Cecil and Marilyn Smith, and her brothers Gary and Chuck Smith. She is survived by her devoted husband, Gary Acaley; her children, Dana Stockton, Robin Bergman (Peter), Ken Olson (Janet), her step children, Michael and Michelle Acaley; and her grandchildren, Chris, Kenny and Jacob Olson, Isaiah and Isabel Acaley, Logan and Laynie Stockton, and Krister and Henrik Bergman; 9 great grandchildren, and her sister Sandi Taylor. In her memory, Sue will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and dedication to her family.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 1pm until the time of the funeral service at 2pm at Sunset Funeral Home (8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115). She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest comfortably now in peace.
