

Toba's Sunrise date January 6, 1952, in Champaign, IL, the daughter of Val D. Stark and Frances J. Isom. Her Sunset was April 27, 2023, when she left this earthly life to be with the Lord. She graduated from Centennial High School in 1969. In 1972, she moved to Rockford where she worked and eventually retired from Ameritech after over 40 years of service. Toba was a long-time member of City First Church. She loved her kids and grandchildren dearly, and had a love for all children. She volunteered in the church nursery for many years. She was also known for her beautiful handwriting and always remembering an occasion with the perfect card.
Toba is survived by her husband, George; Her two sons, Timothy Brown and Kiwan Mitchell; Daughter, Kristen Brown; step sons, George Mitchell Jr. and Anthony Mitchell; Step daughters, Angela Mitchell and Idella Woodard; Daughter-in-law Meredith Brown; Grandchildren Dezmond, Zoey and several bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren; Her two sisters, Monica Wood and Anyeta Isom; A host of nieces and nephews; Special friends, Margaret, Elaine, Pam, Dana, Alfie, Donna, Josephine, Cindy and a host of others. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Craig Stark, Val (Kokie) Stark and her first husband, James E. Brown (d. 1989).
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at City First Church (5950 Spring Creek Rd., Rockford, IL 61114). A private inurnment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the team of physicians and nurses at the University of Wisconsin Madison.
