Tommy D. “Tom” Hasting, 60, of Machesney Park, passed away suddenly during a historical reenactment in Platteville, WI on September 7, 2019. He was born September 24, 1958 in Rockford, the son of Jerry W. and Marie (Williams) Hasting. Tom proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sheridan. He married Lisa Cushman on March 19, 1999 in Oregon, IL. Tom worked as a docent at MMOCA in Madison, and was an artist and a printer. Tom achieved the status of Eagle Scout and was a Scout Master in Troop 28. He was a historical reenactor in the Prerevolutionary Era, and loved teaching children about this era. Tom was a member of the Old Northwest Company. Tom enjoyed sports, and was an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Liverpool Reds Fan. He dreamed of going to Liverpool in the spring. Tom liked traveling to Chicago with Lisa and was a huge Donald Trump supporter. He adored the band, The Struts, he was known as a “Strutter” and he and Lisa would travel all over the Midwest to see them. Tom is loved and will be missed.
Tom is survived by his wife, Lisa; mother, Marie Jacobson; children, Dana (Nathan) Brown and Dale (Brooke) Hasting; 9 grandchildren, brother Donnie (Alice “Petie”) Hasting; niece and nephew, Lisa Munch and Scott Myelle; and mother-in-law, Marlene Cushman, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and step-father, Richard “Jake” Jacobson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Rockford and Madison VA and Dr. Ann O’Rourke at UW-Madison for their loving and compassionate care and support of Tom.
Please come in casual attire, and wear something Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, or the Liverpool Reds related.
A visitation to celebrate Tom’s life will be held from 10:00 a.m., until 11:30, a.m., Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
