Wanda Lee King

Wanda Lee King, 94, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Thursday February 16, 2023 at Fair Oaks Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 11, 1928 in Anna, IL, the daughter of Fred and Pearl Eads. Wanda was employed at National Lock for 35 years before retirement. She married Robert “Bob” King in 1987 and he preceded her in death in 2020. Wanda enjoyed bowling in her younger years as well as being a member of the Red Hat Society. Most of all, she loved being in the country and spending time outdoors with her family. Wanda is loved and missed by her children, Rosealee (Emery) Backman, Pat (Mike) Jensen, Cheryl (Dan) Lignell; step-son, Rob (Sheila) King; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Blattel and Yvonne Palmer and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; children, Edith Jurgens, Janet Merkel, Ralph McClard; step-son, John King; grandson, Ralph C. Morgan; brothers, Fred, John and Shorty and sister, Arvina. A visitation will be held from 5;00-7:00 p.m, Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
