William R Apgar

William “Bill” Ross Apgar, age 69, of Machesney Park, Illinois passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024. He was born July 16, 1954 to Dorothy (Lang) and Richard Apgar in Rockford, Illinois. He married Donna (Thomas) in 1974 and they spent 47 years together before she preceded him in death in 2021.

Bill was the man behind the scenes when it came to Donna’s animal rescuing, they fostered many animals together, had their own pets, and fed the birds outside. He enjoyed outdoor activities like fishing and camping. As well as some indoor activities like bowling and scratch offs. Bill was a huge fan of Chicago teams, the Bears and the Cubs.

Bill is survived by his siblings, Nancy (Richard) Gallegos, Richard (Jean) Apgar, David (Darlene) Apgar, Wendy (Don) Schroeder, and Don (Chris) Apgar; dog, Rosie; cat, Fluffer Nutter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Richard Apgar; and his wife Donna Apgar.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Winnebago County Animal Shelter.

A visitation for William will be held Monday, January 15, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, Illinois 61115, followed by a celebration of life funeral service at 2:00 PM.
