Alice Hicks Boyd, 90, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, June 23, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Northway Church with the Rev. Kevin Mills and Rev. Phil Anderson officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Northway Church, 5915 Zebulon Road, 31210.
Alice was born in Macon to the late Richard Bailey Hicks and Edwina LeMay Hicks. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Hicks, Jr., and her sister, Gerry Hicks. Alice attended Alexander IV elementary school, A. L. Miller High School and was a Cum Laude graduate of Wesleyan College. She was co-owner of the Trading Post Moving and Storage, a company founded by her father in 1930.
She loved her weekly routine for lunch, Tuesday at Jeneane’s with her prayer group, Wednesday at McAllister’s with her children and grandchildren, and Thursday at Idle Hour Country Club with Lally.
She just celebrated 70 years of marriage to the love of her life, Red. Her church and family were her greatest joys. She was a loyal member of Northway Church. Her mission in life was to witness to others about if they had Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. She never hesitated to ask anyone where they went to church, and if they didn’t have a home church, inviting them to come to Northway.
In her testimony she wrote: I want to leave you something of me that I feel is important. My greatest gift has been knowing God personally and that is what I want for you more than anything. So I think I will, from time to time, send you Bible verses or just little sayings that I come across that I want you to keep and I pray will be an encouragement to you along life’s path. Again, I love you with a love that is forever. Always remember God is love.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Durward “Red” Mays Boyd; children, Durward M. “Dubs” Boyd, Jr. (Mary Jo) of Macon, Ed L. Boyd (Georgia) of Forsyth, Lally (Joey) Weaver of Macon; grandchildren, Mary Katherine Kilgore (Rod), D. Mays Boyd III (Becky), Patti Boyd, April Boyd (Dustin Howard), Ethan Boyd (Katelyn Thompson), Joshua B. Weaver, J. Daniel Weaver, and Cardin E.
