

Anne M. Steiner, 87, of Macon, peacefully passed away at home on February 3, 2014 after an extended illness. A Celebration of her Life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. Burial will follow at Macon Memorial Park. The Rev. Joseph Shippen will officiate. The family will greet friends from 5 until 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born to the late Sue and Bennie Meyer on August 3, 1926 in Athens, GA. She graduated from Winterville High School in 1937 and received a BS in Education from the University of Georgia in 1947. She married Godfrey “Goot” Steiner in 1949, and they lived in Washington, Pelham, and Gray, GA, before settling in Macon in 1955.
A former elementary school teacher, Anne was a devoted wife, mother, and family member throughout her lifetime. She was a friend to many, generous with her time, and known for her strength, courage, and quiet wisdom. Always the sports enthusiast, she remained interested and well-versed in various sports.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Goot Steiner, and her siblings Doug Meyer, Jean M. Neely, and Bobby Meyer. She is survived by her children Cindy S. Harris of Macon and Shane Steiner (Kim) of Athens, GA; grandsons Caleb Steiner and Colby Steiner of Athens, GA; sisters Betty Kea of Winterville, GA, Janice Tolbert of Athens, GA, Dawn Collis of Alpharetta, GA, and Donna Stanfield of Jesup, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
