

Macon, GA- Doris Forehand Kitchens, 88, of Highway Fifty-Seven, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 in a local hospital. She was a native of Jenkins County, GA, the daughter of Brinson and Myrtle Forehand who preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at Greenwood Baptist Church, 3400 Gray Highway on Saturday at 11 a.m. with burial in Riverside Cemetery. The Reverend Sam Scarbrough, the Reverend Darrel Watson and the Reverend Joe Ferguson will officiate. Members of the Ruth Sunday School Class are asked to sit together at the service. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6 – 8 p.m., at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. The family can be reached at her residence. Flowers will be accepted or those who wish may make memorial contributions to Greenwood Baptist Church Building Fund or to the American Cancer Research Foundation.
Mrs. Kitchens was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-eight years, Kerry Kitchens and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law, Netti Forehand, Norma Blackburn, Ray Kitchens and Jackie Thomason; brother-in-law, William Overman; stepdaughter, Kathy (Kelly) Tucker and step-granddaughter, Kristin (Eric) Frantz.
Mrs. Kitchens was a faithful member of Greenwood Baptist Church, the Ruth Sunday School Class, W.M.U., Senior Adult Choir and the Senior Adult Group, Goldtimers. She served in many capacities in any church of which she was a member. Mrs. Kitchens worked for over twenty-five years with Intermediates in Baptist Training Union and she called all her members her children. She served several years as Associational (then called Rehoboth Association) Intermediate Baptist Training Director in Macon.
Mrs. Kitchens used to write poetry and she wrote several skits she performed at different Church Senior Adult programs. She did not charge for any performances as she said her pay would be to see someone smile. She also had a book for her skits, poems, and other articles she had written and printed entitled, "Just Things."
Mrs. Kitchens was an honor graduate of Midway High School in Milledgeville. After graduation, she was employed as secretary for Attorney Frank Evans in Milledgeville. After this, she was employed at Robins Air Force Base (at that time called Wellston Depot). She worked at Naval Ordnance Plant in Milledgeville until World War II was over and then she went to work at G. Bernd Company in Macon where she was secretary for thirty-nine and a half years.
