A visitation for Mrs. McLendon will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Snow's Memorial Chapel, 1419 Bass Road, Macon, Georgia 31210. A Celebration of her Life will occur Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Riverside United Methodist Church, 735 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204. Rev. Keith Goodlet and Dr. Laudis H. "Rick" Lanford will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in the North Gate Section. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church.
Mrs. McLendon was born in Macon the daughter of the late Ella Mae Wooten Bazemore and Croel Oxford Bazemore and was preceded in death by her husband, James "Dutch" McLendon. She was a life-long member of Riverside United Methodist Church, a member of the Beatty Gray Sunday School class and was part of the altar guild. Mrs. McLendon was a dedicated homemaker and an avid volunteer both civically and at local schools. She was a member of the Macon Exchangettes, the XYZ of Macon, the Macon Women's Club, the Georgia National Guard Auxiliary, and the Macon Federated Garden Club. Mrs. McLendon was recognized and honored for her dedication to her community involvement. She enjoyed meeting and greeting visitors attending the Macon Cherry Blossom Festival. Mrs. McLendon was regarded as the "Mother" of the Grapevine Band, having two sons that founded the band, and unofficially adopted the other band members.
Mrs. McLendon is survived by her children, Jim McLendon (Jean), Larry McLendon (Carolyn), and Lisa McLendon all of Macon; grandchildren, Jim McLendon (LeAnn), Megan Jones (David), and Mallory Huff (Kyle); 7 great-grandchildren, Grant McLendon, John Owen McLendon, Oliver McLendon, Rowan Jones, Wyatt Jones, Olivia Huff and Hayes Huff; several nieces and nephews.
