

Douglas D. Freeman, III, 74, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 11:00am at Liberty United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Anthony officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:30am until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Liberty UMC Building Fund, 6511 Houston Road, Macon, 31216.
Douglas was born in Americus, Georgia to the late Douglas Freeman, Jr. and the late Stella Kitchens Smith. He served in the United States National Guard and lived in Macon since 1962. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and a member of the Methodist Men. Douglas was active for 10 years in the Rutland Chapter of AARP and the Porter Ellis Community Board. He was in the Exchange Club of Macon and could always be found at the handicap gate during the fair. Douglas enjoyed serving breakfast each month at the H2U Coliseum meeting. He had many friends in XYZ at Vineville Baptist and Inglelights at Ingleside Baptist.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Margaret; children, Chris (Angie), Allen (Angela) and Todd (Paige); seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and brother, Steve Freeman of Rutland. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy.
