Florence Barnes Childs Simmons, 96, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021. A funeral service will held on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel Cherry St. with Father Scott Winchel officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
She was born on November 24, 1924 in Waycross, Georgia to Charles and Gertrude Boland Barnes. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Shara (Sally) Childs Peacock; husbands, Thomas O. Childs, Jr. and Philip E. Simmons; and son, Thomas O. Childs, III.
Florence was a graduate of Mount De Sales Academy and a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. She was a lifelong and devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Dorsey, Barbara Lemaich and Theresa Mize; eight grandchildren, Angela, Garrett, Michael, Katherine, Christopher, Gregory, Lisa and Shara; fifteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
