Mr. Bewley was born in Glasgow, Kentucky to the late James Anderson Bewley and Pernie Mae Bailey Bewley. He moved to Macon in 1973 from Ocala, Florida. Mr. Bewley was a retail consultant with International Shoe Company. He was of the Baptist faith and served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Bewley was a past member of Healy Point Golf and Country Club where he was an avid golfer, making eleven hole in ones.
Survivors include his wife, Joanna Cason Bewley; sons, Leighton and James Bewley both of Florida; daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Bewley of Florida and Nancy Bewley Ormsby of Oklahoma.
