James B. Wharton, 83, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 6, 2021 in the chapel of Ingleside Baptist Church. Burial will be private. Dr. Mark Hudgins and Dr. Michael Middleton will officiate. Masks and social distancing are required to be in attendance of the service. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon 31210.
Mr. Wharton was born in Lafayette, Indiana the son of the late Mae and Norris Wharton and was preceded in death by his brother, John Wharton. He was retired from Mercer University after 32 years and was a United States Navy veteran. Mr. Wharton was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church where he was a member of the Bowman Crowley Sunday School Class and served in various roles at Ingleside. He loved lighthouses, birds, Chicago Cubs, Mustangs and Hershey Kisses.
Mr. Wharton is survived by his wife, Carol C. Wharton of Macon; daughter, Jamie Hayslip of Lizella; step-children, Conni Tane (Van) of Forsyth and Dr. Michael Middleton (Adair) of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Lane and Kaylee Hayslip, Caroline, Emmy, Mary Michael, and Van Tane, Connor, Luke, Drew, and Ansley Allen Middleton; brother, Tim Wharton (Mary) of Lafayette, Indiana; sister, Barbara Laney (Leonard) of Kalamazoo, Michigan; several nieces and nephews.
