A private burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery. Rev. Chris Minton will officiate.
Born in Thomson, Georgia, Jane was the daughter of the late Hodges Timmerman Mobley and Marjie Hill Mobley. Jane was the apple of her parents’ eye and had a wonderful childhood with many cousins living nearby. Her father and grandfather owned the Thomson Mercantile Wholesale Grocery. Her mother loved to host friends, missionaries and church groups so Jane learned to entertain at an early age.
At the age of 17, Jane moved to Macon to attend Wesleyan College. She loved Wesleyan and graduated from there in 1948 with a degree in Art History. While she was at Wesleyan, she met young Bob Dickey and they married soon after graduation. While Thomson was a small town, moving to Musella was even smaller. That did not stop Jane from entertaining. She and Bob had friends over regularly to play bridge and gin rummy.
Jane and Bob were both devoted Georgia Bulldog and golf fans. They traveled to many Georgia games with Patsy and Thatcher Watson. Away games and home games they would dress in their best Bulldog attire and head out the door. They were regular attendees at the TPC golf tournament in Ponte Vedra. You did not visit them on Saturday or Sunday afternoons unless you wanted to watch either football or golf.
Jane and Bob went to every peach convention – state, southeast and national for fifty plus years. They had friends in the industry all over the country. Jane enjoyed freezing peaches for her grandchildren to enjoy all year long.
Jane was very active at Musella Baptist Church where she and Bob taught Sunday School for almost sixty years. She was also the music leader during the service with her neighbor, Susanna Hays, playing the piano.
Although Jane learned to play bridge at an early age, she did not take up Duplicate Bridge until her 70’s. She earned her duplicate gold points in record time and was an excellent bridge player.
When Jane decided it was time to move to Carlyle Place, she jumped wholeheartedly into activities and entertaining. Even through the lockdown of Covid, she and her friends still held their wine club meetings.
Although she loved her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren were her greatest blessings. She and Bob took both grandchildren on many trips such as visiting the Hotel del Coronado in California or the American Girl Doll Store in Chicago. She hosted many swimming, skiing and pool parties for their friends. Their lakehouse door was always open with soft drinks and snacks.
Jane enjoyed serving on the board of the Historic Riverside Cemetery, being a past president and member of Town and Country Garden Club and hosting many Rotary Club and Garden Club parties.
All the way to the end of her life, Jane was a woman of incredible strength and determination. She was never afraid to speak her mind, stand firmly in her beliefs or challenge those around her to think differently. Jane was a solid friend to so many – always willing to lend a helping hand. She lived life large and on her own terms and those who loved her admired her resilience, independence and the passion she poured into all that she did.
Jane is survived by her son, State Representative Robert Lee Dickey, III (Cynde) and her daughter Marjie Dickey Reehling (John); two grandchildren, Robert Lee Dickey IV (Stacy) and Marjie Dickey Roquemore (Tray); and three great grandchildren – Scarlett Jane Dickey, Mary Martin Roquemore and James Warren Roquemore, IV.
The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers – Shirley Jones, Sharon Sellars, Sabrina Davis, Lavern Prater and Ramona Chapman as well as Lindsey with Pine Pointe Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to be made to Musella Baptist Church (PO Box 56, Musella,
GA 31066); Wesleyan College (4760 Forsyth Road, Macon, GA 31210) or Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy (PO Box 373, Macon, Georgia 31202).
Per Jane’s wishes, another Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Carlyle Place for her friends she enjoyed there.
