

Lucy M. Ellington MACON – Lucy M. Ellington, 86, passed away after a brief illness Saturday, April 4, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Vineville Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Ft. Valley at 2:00 PM. Rev. Ron Holland and Rev. Phil Anderson will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6 until 8 PM Monday at the funeral home and asks that those who wish, make donations to Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon 31204 or to Hospice of Central Georgia, P O Box 6533, Macon 31208. Members of the Joy Sunday School Class are asked to sit together as a group at the church service. Mrs. Ellington was born in Houston County, Georgia and had lived in Middle Georgia for most of her life. She was retired from the State of Georgia having worked with the Georgia Academy for the Blind as a secretary. She was a graduate of Ft. Valley High School, the Georgia Alabama Business College and was member of Vineville Baptist Church. Mrs. Ellington was very active within the church and was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class and the XYZ Club. She was the daughter of the late Calvin T. and Lucy Champion Mathews. Mrs. Ellington was a dedicated, caring mother who raised hers sons by herself after the tragic death of her husband, Wiley O. Ellington in 1955. Mrs. Ellington is survived by her sons, Cal (Ginger) Ellington of Hilton Head, SC and Carl ( Glenda) Ellington of Macon; grandson, Todd Ellington of Atlanta; granddaughters, Lisa (Paul) Campbell of Atlanta and Leslie Ann Ellington of Macon; great-grandchild, Ethan Campbell of Atlanta; sister, Jean Bowdoin of Forsyth; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their thanks for the special care given to Mrs. Ellington by Angela, Rhonda, Doni and members of Hospice of Central Georgia, especially Jenny.
