

MACON – Malcolm F. Bryant, Sr., 87, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2011 at the Carl Vinson Medical Center, Dublin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Liberty United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Bob Shell will officiate. The family will meet friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Liberty United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 6511 Houston Road, Macon, GA 31216.
Mr. Bryant, son of the late William Shove and Napper Johnson Bryant, was a lifelong resident of Macon. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church. Mr. Bryant served with the U. S. Army during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge where he was captured by the Germans and held until the end of the war. He was a member of AX-POW Middle Georgia Chapter. Mr. Bryant was the owner and operator of Bryant’s Grocery on Hawkinsville Highway for forty-two years. He was famous for his cut-to-order meats. Mr. Bryant was an avid fisherman and quail hunter and enjoyed raising and training birddogs.
Survivors include his wife, Cathryn A. Bryant of Macon; his son, Malcolm (Suzanne) Bryant of Vidalia; his daughter, June Bryant (Chet) Strunk of Macon; his grandson, Jake (Margaret) Bryant of Sandy Springs; great grandchildren, Jake, Jr. , Ava, and Catherine Bryant and granddaughter, Millie Bryant; three brothers, Hugh (Mary Grace) Bryant of Macon, Ed Bryant of Birmingham, AL and Dennis Bryant of Macon; several nieces and nephews.
