Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery with Dr. Mark Hudgins officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street.
Margaret, the daughter of the late Henry and Willie Blount, was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She moved to Macon to attend Wesleyan College and met the love of her life, Wade Carter. They married in 1950 and were blessed with three children, Wade Darrell Carter, Jr., Sherwood Carter (September), and Elizabeth "Beth" Chapman (Chris). After raising her children, she went to work for Southern Bell Telephone Company and retired after over 25 years. She was active in "Mom's Club", Macon Garden Club, and was a den mother and staunch supporter of the Girl and Boy Scouts. She and Wade enjoyed square dancing and traveled extensively for many years. One of her biggest joys, however, was spending time with her family at their cabin on Jackson Lake. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of several bridge clubs where she had many dear friends. Her home was always open to family and friends and she loved to cook for them. One of the most requested dishes from her grandchildren was her banana "puddin".
Margaret was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and the Faithful Friends Sunday School class. A woman of strong faith, she worked tirelessly organizing Forest Hills' annual Pumpkin Patch Festival for many years and was also constantly attending to those in need with food, gifts, cards and her infectious smile.
In addition to her dear husband of sixty six years, their three children, and an honorary son, Michael (Mike) Shepard, she is survived by nine grandchildren: Danielle Carter, Michelle C. Zellner (Wes), Ryan Carter (Karen), Autumn Harvell (Charles), Melissa C. Fonzo (Freddy), Amelia Huntsinger, Shannon Chapman, Matt Chapman and Kellie Anne Chapman, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, her sister in law, Dottie Blount, and a host of friends. She was also blessed with nine great grandchildren.
