

MACON – Maria Reyes Morton, 89, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012. A Celebration Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at Northway Baptist Church. The family will greet friends following the Memorial Service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be private for family in the Andersonville National Cemetery.
Mrs. Morton was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico and was the widow of Major USAF (Ret) Richard L. Morton of Macon. She was retired from the United States Postal Service and the United States Department of Agriculture. Mrs. Morton was a member of Northway Church and was preceded in death by her grandsons, Zach Morton and Beau Slocumb.
Mrs. Morton is survived by her children, Marlou Kirby (Charles) of Elon, NC, Jim Morton (Denise) of Hoschton, GA, Steve Morton (Pat) of Weaverville, NC, Jeanne Slocumb (Buster) of Juliette, Dee Morton-Rossi (Umberto) of Cortona, Italy, and Johnny Morton (Carla) of Macon; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including, Ruth Brady (Don) of Macon and Ishmael Garcia of Philadelphia, PA.
Maria, Ria to her friends, loved to travel all over the world, having visited forty-two different countries. Many of those trips were part of short-term mission teams. She had a passion for gardening, growing beautiful flowers that she loved to share with her family and friends.
Maria’s two greatest passions were her family and her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. She was married to the love of her life, Richard, for 56 years. She had a servant’s heart that exemplified the love of Christ to all who knew her. Her life made a lasting legacy that will continue to live on through her family and friends.
