Mary Alice was a gracious, kind,  gentle soul and my friend .I keep her forever in my heart as I know her children Dobbie, Mike and all of her family do. Fly with the angels Mary Alice. You are loved!😇❤️🙏✝️

Tomorrow  is Mary Alice's funeral.  It is late, and  I should be in bed, as I need to get up early and head to Macon.  I feel  like I am burying my second mother, and I am not looking forward to it.  
Mary Alice, "Ma Bruce" , as we called her, was very special to me. Mike and I met in kindergarten 55 years ago and became very close a few years later when we joined Boy Scouts.  As we grew up, I think I spent every other weekend at the Bruce home and became part of the family in a sense. As I never had a little sister, Dobbie became that for me, and Mike and I became inseparable. Since  Mike had a "pokey" streak in him, I had plenty of "waiting " time on my hands at the Bruce home. Ma Bruce had a way of pulling me aside and talking to me almost as an adult in  a way that made me feel so very special!
I can't explain my feelings exactly,  but suffice it to say that our conversations were very uplifting and always left me with a warmth that only a mother could  gift one with.
My own mother died when I was 15. Jim and Mary Alice filled a void of parental love that I will always treasure. When Jim died, I was so glad to be able to return in small measure  some of the love and caring that the Bruce family had shown to me in my grief.
As I married and began raising my own family,  I  would stop and visit on occasion, but,  as years passed, the visits became less frequent.  I deeply regret that. But, anytime that I ran into Mary Alice, I never sensed anything but joy in seeing me and having the chance to catch up! 
What a sweet woman, mother, wife, child of God, sister, human being! As it reads on my own mother's headstone,  "May she enjoy her eternal reward". I wish that for Mary Alice and pray for God to grant that for her.
I love you "Ma" Bruce, and I will continue to keep an eye on Mike!!

From a very early age, I knew Mary Alice was a very special person. Countless days at the lake and Mexico Beach only served to reinforce what I knew. Her love for yall as well as the entire family was immeasurable. She was definitely the epitome of a Southern lady. Her love, laughter, and smile will definitely be missed. Prayers for you all.

I moved to Macon from upstate New York when I was a senior in high school. Mary Alice reached out to me from the very start. I never felt like a stranger. Her ever-present smile, compassionate spirit, and sense of humor contributed to making me so happy to be a member of the  Class of 1950.  It was my happiest year of high school. 

May the treasure chest of beautiful memories accompany you on your journey of healing.

Dear Bruce family, 

I met Mary Alice through my work with alums at Mount de Sales. She was a regular at our annual Christmas luncheon and concert. Mary Alice was absolutely delightful and I will always remember her with a twinkle in her eye. She had such a great sense of humor and I enjoyed hearing her stories of MDS as well as her laugh. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Much love to you all.

Dear Dobbie & Mike, 

We are already missing your Mother's cheerful laugh.  We were never around Mary Alice that she didn't laugh happily and everyone at Carlyle Place knew she was in the room or coming down the hallway whenever we heard her laughing.
