Mary was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1922, in Knoxville, Tennessee, the youngest child of John Irving, Sr. and Eddie Young Dale. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Irene, and brothers, John, Jr. and Robert.
She spent her formative years in Knoxville and Chattanooga, moving to Macon, GA with her parents compliments of her father’s job with the Railway Express Agency.
It was in Macon she met her future husband, Wade McCurry Jr. (Mac). They were married at Vineville Baptist Church on November 30, 1947, and remained in Macon, raising sons, Wade III and Douglas.
Mary was involved in community, church and neighborhood activities. She was a member of DAR and the Women’s Civic Club. She loved reading, playing bridge and was an excellent seamstress. She was a dedicated wife and mother and embraced her role as Mama Mac to her grandchildren. She loved the holidays and treasured her family gathering to celebrate the seasons.
Her sons will always treasure her love and steadfastness, as her grandchildren remember Mama Mac “specials” and the days she devoted to each of their birthdays.
She is survived by her sons; Wade III (Sally) McCurry of Macon and Douglas (Charna) McCurry of Milton; grandchildren, Matt (Jesalyn) McCurry, Will (Reese) McCurry and Mary Beth (Cole) Rutherford; and great-grandchildren, Stuart, Louise, Mac, Martin and Mary Parham McCurry.
