

Reuben Walter Hattaway, 88, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Lawrence Drive Baptist Church with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Lane Collins and the Rev. Brad Marchman will officiate. The family will meet friends on Tuesday, from 5:30 – 8:30 PM at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue and may be contacted at the residence. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 222 Mecca Drive, Macon 31205.
Mr. Hattaway was born in Macon, Georgia on June 21, 1925 to the late Jack and Pearl Hattaway. He attended Heard Elementary School and Lanier High School for Boys. He retired from Robins Air Force Base after forty-two years of federal service. At the time of his retirement, he was Supervisor of the Aircraft Maintenance Operations Office. He was a member of Lawrence Drive Baptist and a former member of Avondale Baptist Church for forty-nine years. He was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Training Union Teacher in both churches. He was a member of Al Sihah Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite Bodies, Rutland Masonic Lodge No. 298, Red Cross of Constantine, Horace L. Whitlock Council No. 309, York Rite Bodies; Constantine Chapter No. 004, Washington Council No. 06, and St. Omer Commandery No. 2 and William A. Davis Daylight Lodge No. 753. He served as Potentate in 2012 for Al Sihah Shrine Temple.
Mr. Hattaway was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Howard Hattaway of Macon and Clayton Hattaway of Johnson City, Tennessee and one sister, Bertha Modena of Macon.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Carolyn Hattaway; daughter, Gail (Tracy) Nowell; grandchildren, Alan (Heather) Nowell of Eastman and Amanda (Jason) Carden of Macon; great grandchildren, Jake Nowell and Caleb Nowell of Eastman and Amelia Carden of Macon; three brothers, Ray (Betty) Hattaway and Larry (Elizabeth) Hattaway of Macon and Charles (Mary) Hattaway of Florence, South Carolina; two sisters, Kathleen Duffey of Macon and Lillian Carter of Bethlehem and a number of nieces and nephews.
